 SACHIN WATCHED NATRANG

A special screening was organised by the movie makers this Thursday at a multiplex in suburban Bandra, where the legendary batsman walked in with his wife Anjali and close friend Ajit Ranade.

He was also accompanied by filmmakers Indra Kumar, Rakesh Mehra, Nishikant Kamat, director Ravi Jadhav and lead actor Atul Kulkarni for the late night show.

The movie, depicting the plight of a 'Tamasha' artist, turned out to be a fine watch for Sachin, who was all praise for Atul's work and the film music, by composer-duo Ajay-Atul.

"On and off, I keep on watching many movies. This is a standard piece of work in the recent times," he said.

Atul said, "Sachin had expressed his desire to watch the movie when we met recently for the screening of 'Peepli Live'. He appreciated it a lot, discussed it meticulously and asked several questions as to how I got under the skin of the character."

"Sachin has made us proud and happy through his work over two decades now...And it is nice that we could reciprocate it in our own way...Its a great feeling," Atul said.

McCullum glad New Zealand back in Dhaka

The Black Caps take on formidable South Africa on Friday at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium, the same venue where they crashed to a 4-0 series defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in October last year.
But McCullum said the experience gained on that trip will hold New Zealand in good stead.

"It's a real positive for us," the 29-year-old said. "We have some good knowledge about the conditions in Dhaka and it will help us playing against South Africa in those conditions."

"They would probably have wanted some pace and bounce in the wicket, but they won't get that. It is not a bad draw for us at all."

New Zealand failed to negotiate the Bangladeshi spinners on turning wickets in last year's series, but the pitches prepared at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium for the World Cup are more sporting.

McCullum dismissed suggestions that South Africa tended to choke in crunch matches, which would make it easier for the Black Caps.

"No, not really," he said. "From our point of view we should just focus on what we can achieve rather than focus on the opposition. If we can control that, hopefully South Africa will fall by the wayside."

"They have got a good bunch of players, but we will obviously have to focus on guys like Kallis, de Villiers, Morkel and Steyn."

"But I would like us to focus on what we can achieve over the next few days and get ready to give ourselves the best opportunity to win this game."

"If we can play our best, it will give is a great opportuinuty to qualify for the semi-finals."

McCullum was delighted that skipper Daniel Vettori was expected to be fit for the quarter-finals after missing the last two league matches against Canada and Sri Lanka.

"It will be great to have him back," he said. "Not only his bowling, but also his leadership and handy ability to bat down the order as well."

"He is a big player and it is good to have him back."
The winner on Friday will clash with either Sri Lanka or England in the semi-finals

Tendulkar, Ponting at opposite poles as walking debate rages

Tendulkar walked back to the pavillion despite the umpire signalling not out during India's league match against the West Indies here while Ponting stayed his ground till he was ruled out after a successful review by Pakistan in another match.

Tendulkar was hoping to score his 100th international hundred but his innings ended when he was dismissed for just two. He faced only four balls, clipping fast bowler Ravi Rampaul to wicket-keeper Devon Thomas and he walked without waiting for the umpire's decision.
Ponting had made 19 when he edged off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez to Kamran Akmal at the R Premadasa stadium in Colombo on Saturday.

When on-field umpire Marias Erasmus gave the Australian captain not out, the decision was reviewed and overturned.

Ponting admitted he knew he had edged the ball but said he had always waited for the umpire's decision all through his career. "There were no doubts about the nick, I knew I hit it, but as always I wait for the umpire to give me out. That's the way I've always played the game," he said.
West Indies captain Darren Sammy hailed Tendulkar as "a true gentleman" for walking despite Australian umpire Steve Davis ruling him not out. "It shows the measure of the man (Tendulkar). He is a true gentleman. After 17,000 runs, he could walk. That was brilliant on the part of Sachin," Sammy said after his side lost their last Group B match by 80 runs here last night.
Yuvraj, who set up the win for India, was not surprised with Tendulkar walking.
